Want to dip into the sea of primers, but the hefty price tag is stopping you? Today, I have a simple solution for you. Drugstore brand NYX Cosmetics came up with First Base Primer Spray that should turn your face into a flawless canvas for further makeup application.
Before we start with the review, I will link you NYX Official Site so you can see more official details about this product.
Official description is:
“Prep your face for impeccable makeup application with our new skin-smoothing First Base Primer Spray. This nourishing mist keeps the skin looking and feeling soft, supple, and refreshed while it locks in makeup.”
You can read my humble opinion lower. Unfortunately, this is the kind of product where it is hard to capture the effects so you’ll have to take my word for it.
NYX Cosmetics First Base Primer Spray
Packaging - 8/10
Formula - 10/10
Effects - 9/10
Price - 9/10
- Shrinks pores
- Doesn’t increase makeup
This comes packed in a white spray bottle containing 60 mL (or 2.02 fl. oz.) of a product. The bottle is nothing fancy and the black part is easily scratched so I couldn’t give it a higher grade, although the spray and the bottle are fully functional.
On the back is a simple description with listed ingredients. There is alcohol in it so for those of you who are sensitive to it, you should keep that in mind. What I liked is that it contains niacinamide which keeps skin moisturized and is even linked to anti-aging properties. I hope you can see other ingredients on the photo below.
The spray is fine, it is not too direct so you don’t have a feeling like you were sprayed with a hose.
I must say that I love this formula. Alcohol is not so noticeable and it reduces the oil on my face so I believe that the normal/combination/oily skinned ladies will prefer it more than dry skinned ladies.
The fluid is almost like water but in a good way. It doesn’t clog my pores and feels weightless on my skin. Also, it feels really nice when I put it on because it gives me that refreshed feeling. I use about 3-4 sprays on my face and they soak up in a minute or so – reducing oil and yet giving it hydration. I love it!
As you may know, I have oily skin prone to breakouts and I feel like this creates a barrier for my face and it doesn’t give me breakouts. I love it!
You can use this primer in various ways so I will rate each category:
- I spray it on my face as a primer as it was intended, it does not clog my pores and is a great base for makeup
- I spray it on my sponge or foundation brush to aid makeup application look seamless
- I spray it on my makeup brush to give my shadows a push of pigmentation
- I spray it on my face after applying makeup to blend my powder foundation into my skin. I also use elf Mist & Set for that.
- When I use moisturizing sleeping masks to bed I spray this over to lock the moisture for the night
The only downside about this product is that it doesn’t prolong the wear of my makeup. It wasn’t actually intended for prolonging makeup wear, but if it had that factor it would be all in one and I wouldn’t have the need to buy other sprays. Nevertheless, just the way it makes my skin feel, and the way it minimizes my pores is enough for me to rebuy it.
The price of this primer is $8 for 60 mL which is a bargain considering other primers on the market. And you get a lot of spraying for that price.
It won’t be difficult to get your hands on this primer because it is available everywhere, both online and offline. I will list out a few options for you to choose:
Considering pros and cons, I think that it is worth trying. You never know, maybe it will become your favorite primer. I know that it became my routine to use it daily and I am very happy with my purchase.
